Frequently Asked Questions

food

How do I feed Cold Pressed food?

Cold pressed is easy to feed, simply check your dog's weight against our feeding guidelines and measure this out and pop into your dog's bowl.

If you are mixing with raw food, you can feed both at same time as they break down at similar rates.

Always make sure there is fresh water available.

How do I feed Raw Frozen food?

Take a tray out of the freezer and pop into the fridge the day before you require it and when it's fully defrosted you can serve directly from tray to bowl.

If you are feeding a Premium Complete 70|10|10|10 meal (perfect for new raw feeders or for convenience), you don't need to add anything to the bowl, but if you're feeding our Core 80|10|10 meal (perfect for experienced or DIY raw feeders) we suggest mixing with your own selection of nutrients and minerals.

You can also mix with our cold pressed food as both ranges break down at the same rate in your dogs stomach.

Always make sure there is fresh water available and read our feeding guidelines to ensure you're feeding the correct amount.

Can I feed Cold Pressed and Raw Frozen food?

Yes you can feed a mixture of both cold pressed at same time as raw as they break down in your dog's stomach at the same rate, reducing the risk of your dog's stomach knotting.

Can I mix Raw Frozen with Kibble?

We do not recommending feeding raw food with kibble as it could knot in the dog's stomach.

How do I switch to Wilsons Pet Food?

When switching from other food, we recommend starting gradually by adding a small amount of new food to their current food so that it makes up roughly 25% of the meal.

Increase gradually over the course of 7 days until you've fully swapped.

Always ensure you are feeding the correct amount by checking our raw frozen feeding guide or cold pressed feeding guide.

How big are the Cold Pressed pellets?

Our Cold Pressed Dry Food is suitable for all sizes and ages of dogs, with each pellet being around 1-1.8cm long.

What if my dog gets sick?

While many dogs' stomachs can easily learn new tricks, some are a little slower, so we recommend following our switching instructions for a smooth transition period. It will help your dog adjust its digestive enzyme release, alter stomach pH, adapt intestinal microbiome and promote healthy digestion.

If your dog has loose stool at any stage - reduce the amount of food for 3 days and give their stomach time to stabilise.

Always ensure you are feeding the correct amount by checking our raw frozen feeding guide or cold pressed feeding guide.

How do I store my food?

Store Cold Pressed in it's bag or box in a dry and cool space, away from any areas of heat, where it is able to breath and never in an air tight container.

Raw Frozen food should be kept in the freezer until you are ready to pop it in the fridge to defrost. It can remain in your fridge for up to 4 days.

Where is your food made?

Our food is made right here in the UK. Our Raw Frozen and Cold Pressed dog food is crafted in our Scottish factories which have approval for making pet food.

Why feed Cold Pressed?

It's easy to feed, dry dog food which is gently pressed with much heat and processing than traditional kibble, leaving all the essential nutrients your dog needs.

What should I do if my dog has any allergies?

Recipes and ingredients are available on each product page, but if you have any other questions please do get in touch at info@wilsonspetfood.co.uk

Is your packaging recyclable?

Yes. We’re super eco-conscious here at Wilsons, so all our packaging is either 100% recyclable or biodegradable – and sometimes even both!

Our cardboard-based raw food trays, sleeves and our cold pressed bags are fully recyclable with your regular paper/cardboard kerbside collection and our raw food tray film lids are recyclable with your at-home plastic recycling collection.

Why do you reduce food amounts as puppies get older?

Our guide has been designed by a top nutritionist who created all of our recipes, so you can be sure that it will help you provide your pup with the nutrition that he needs throughout his growth stages.

Puppies all experience the fastest growth rate in their first 4 to 6 months, and most will have reached around 50-75% (varies depending on breed size) of their adult weight by the time they are 4 to 6 months old! With this major growth spurt out of the way, their nutritional needs change drastically. They still need more than adults, but not nearly as much as younger pups.

Although the table shows a large drop in feeding amount for this age, you should always progress onto the new amount slowly, while watching your pup's weight and general health and condition and change the feeding amount accordingly.
