Wilsons' Scottish Heritage

John Wilsons - Founder of Wilsons Pet Food

Not many pet food companies are lucky enough to boast such an exciting history, but Wilsons is one of them.

Back in 1861, our founder John Wilson worked hard in a local seed crushing mill for 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, while every evening he would visit local farmers with a borrowed horse and cart to buy and sell animal feeds. It was here that Wilsons was born.

After over 10 years of hard work, John was finally able to open his own feed mill in Dundee using state-of-the-art machinery sourced from the US.
During the Second World War, Wilsons was taken over by the Ministry of Food - the mill was working around the clock producing vast quantities of straight feeds such as bran and flaked maize, & mixings for lamb & poultry.

By the early 1980s, the company moved to new state-of-the-art facilities in Dundee and concentrated on the market for working dog feed, with over 30 tons of product leaving Wilsons every day, heading for pet shops, farm stores and supermarkets throughout the United Kingdom.

Today, Wilsons has two purpose-built factories in Perthshire & produce a range of cold pressed and raw frozen dog food.

Throughout our history, our ethos has always remained the same; to provide a high quality pet food using the best ingredients, and now we're excited to take it one step further by launching our eco-friendly packaging to help reduce our impact on the environment.

With almost 160 years expertise, we're proud to make delicious food helping to keep dogs healthy across the country, while continuing to produce in our Scottish factories.
